Zero Dark Thirty Clip Teases SEAL Team Six Mission To Find Bin Laden
While some of December's big releases—like Tom Hooper's Les Miserables, Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, and Peter Jackson's The Hobbit—have been unleashing torrents of ads to promote their upcoming debuts, there's been one hotly buzzed about film that's barely bothered.
The marketing for Kathryn Bigelow's Zero Dark Thirty has regularly refused to show its cards. For months on end, all we knew about the film was that it had a sprawling cast of noteworthy names like Jessica Chastain, Chris Pratt, Joel Edgerton, Mark Strong and Jason Clarke, and that it focused on American forces' hunt for Osama Bin Laden. But with a plotline like that, do you really need to promote much else?
The film's first trailer revealed very little footage, yet was riveting. And it was only last week did the filmmakers reveal Chastain is the film's protagonist. All this mystique has already served the film well with critics, as it was just named Best Picture of the Year by the New York Film Critics Circle. Now, with mere days before the limited release debut that qualifies it for the 2013 Academy Awards, Moviefone has a clip of the film's SEAL Team Six getting ready to go after Bin Laden. Check it out below:
In the clip above you get a glimpse of Edgerton and Pratt, who both play members of SEAL Team Six, and Chastain as a headstrong CIA officer named Maya. Bigelow and investigative reporter turned screenwriter Mark Boal, who previously collaborated on The Hurt Locker, taking home Oscars for directing and screenwriting respectively, did an intense amount of research for the film. They told Nightline that their investigation led them to the woman Maya is based on, and that their story is built on first-hand accounts to make the narrative as grounded and realistic as possible. The results are already drawing talk of a Bigelow and her latest effort being major contenders for a repeat victory at the Oscars.
Zero Dark Thirty opens in limited release on December 19th. A wide release will follow on January 11th, 2013.
