Does Miley Cyrus Need To Put Her Tongue Away?

If you missed the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, let me do my best to let you know what happened. Lady Gaga made weird faces, then ran around in a thong. Will Smith’s family overreacted to everything. The much-hyped ‘N Sync reunion awesomely came to fruition. A small number of actual awardswere given out, and Miley Cyrus went to town on Robin Thicke with a foam finger. Ordinarily, any of those moments would be enough to monopolize the post-ceremony conversation, but all anyone seems to be talking about is Miley’s nonsense. It seems everyone has an opinion on the former child star’s antics, including her good friend Kelly Osbourne.

The fashionista was co-hosting E!’s Fashion Police when the subject of MIley’s performance came up. Osbourne wasn’t exactly mean, but just like her mother on numerous occasions before, she did not hold back on her feelings, especially those related to Miley repeated sticking out her tongue and licking her lips while on stage.

"Look, Miley's my friend and I love her, and I have her back no matter what, but as her friend I'm going to tell her - put your fucking tongue in your mouth! I love you, but just put your tongue in your mouth."

I don’t know if she’s trying to simulate ecstasy usage since that’s what her song is about or if she’s trying to go from the sexual angle, but either way, it’s pretty disconcerting to watch someone repeatedly Gene Simmons it. I don’t really get why she would be excited about that being her thing, but I suppose the fact that millions of people are dissecting her performance means she wins, at least on some level.

Ordinarily when one celebrity bashes another celebrity, there are immediate repercussions for such behavior, but I’m not really sure there’s going to be the slightest bit of fallout here. Osbourne is an extremely blunt woman. She always has been and always will be. Cyrus too is of the fiercely independent sort, and one would imagine that’s what they like about each other. Besides, it’s not as if Kelly bashed Miley’s singing capabilities or even her performance. She just told her to put that damn tongue away, which is a pretty minor critique.

Whether it's a needed one, however, is another matter entirely. There are some who think Miley needs to seriously cool her jets and lock that shit up, and there are others who think she needs to keep on being her ridiculous self. Where do you stand on the issue?
