Former Deadliest Catch Producer Gunned Down

Tragedy struck Pasadena, California early yesterday morning when Joseph McMahon, best known as a former producer on Discovery’s The Deadliest Catch was gunned down outside his apartment. He was only 24-years-old.

The shooting later led to a manhunt for his alleged killer, and that too ended in tragedy. The suspected murderer, who has not yet been identified, was found in his car, dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound yesterday afternoon. He too was just 24-years-old.

The details surrounding what happened are still very fuzzy. The victim’s family told CBS that he heard noises outside and went to investigate. Not long after, he was gunned down and the perpetrator sped away inside a car. Exactly why he would be targeted when he didn’t seem to have any history of violence or affiliation with any gang, however, is still unclear at this point. So too is his relationship to the alleged gunman.

Joseph McMahon worked as a producer on The Deadliest Catch for nine episodes. Not long after news of the murder went public, the production company behind the trendsetting show, Original Productions, released a statement, courtesy of Deadline

“The entire Original Productions family is heartbroken with this news. Our thoughts and prayers are for the McMahon family.”

It’s always a tragedy to lose someone so young. When murder is involved, it’s even more heartbreaking. By all accounts, Joseph McMahon was a good guy, a good worker and a decent human being. He deserved a whole lot better than how it ended. TV Blend’s thoughts go out to his friends, his family and everyone who was touched by his life. He will be missed.

In his honor, you can check out an example of what makes The Deadliest Catch so riveting below…
