American Horror Story: Coven Preview: Minotaurs And Voodoo
American Horror Story: Coven has been delivering a pretty steady flow of teasers leading up to next week's premiere. The latest is "Minotaur," which teases a neck, some shoulders, and two touching hands, one of which has two strange looking fingers. If you're rusty on your Greek mythology, a Minotaur is a mythical beast with the head of a bull and the body of a man. We've seen something that fits that description in some of the series' previously released teasers, including the one that shows the girls walking up the steps of the old "house in New Orleans," as well as the trailer:
In addition to minotaurs galore, FX also released this featurette which schools us on Voodoo, another subject that's been teased fairly heavily. Check it out below to see truth separated from fiction about Voodoo in New Orleans.
Interesting stuff, particularly the part about "corrupting spirits" to use Voodoo to bring harm to people. Will anyone be corrupting spirits in American Horror Story: Coven? We'll find out soon enough! The series' premiere is just a week away. The series premieres October 9 at 10:00 p.m. ET on FX.
If you haven't seen it yet, watch the series' creepy new title sequence here, and read the official description for Coven below:
American Horror Story: Coven tells the secret history of witches and witchcraft in America. Over three hundred years have passed since the turbulent days of Salem and those who managed to escape are now facing extinction. Mysterious attacks have been escalating against their kind and young girls are being sent away to a special school in New Orleans to learn how to protect themselves. Wrapped up in the turmoil is new arrival, Zoe, who is harboring a terrifying secret of her own. Alarmed by the recent aggression, Fiona, the long-absent Supreme, sweeps back into town, determined to protect the Coven and hell-bent on decimating anyone who gets in her way.
Fiona is played by Jessica Lange, and Zoe is played by Taissa Farmiga. The cast also includes Kathy Bates (as Madame LaLaurie), Sarah Paulson (Cordelia Foxx), Angela Bassett (Marie Laveau), Evan Peters (Kyle Spencer), Gabourey Sidibe (Queenie), Frances Conroy (Myrtle Snow), Emma Roberts (Madison Montgomery), Lily Rabe (Misty Day), Patti Lupone (Joan Ramsey) and Denis O'Hare as Spalding.
