Friday Night Lights' Jurnee Smollett Joins Do No Harm
A Friday Night Lights alum is joining the first season of NBC’s new thriller Do No Harm. Jurnee Smollett has signed on to the midseason drama for a three-episode arc in which she will be playing the daughter of Dr. Vanessa Young (Phylicia Rashad).
Do No Harm stars Rashad as the head of the neurosurgery department of the hospital in which the series takes place. The plot centers on a young neurosurgeon, Jason Cole, who is played by Rescue Me star Steven Pasquale. Cole has a bit of a personality problem; that is, he has an extra one. The show’s described as a Jekyll and Hyde type story in which Cole’s alter ego Ian is putting his career and personal life at serious risk. While he’s a responsible doctor during the day, Cole is a hard-living guy by night.
There’s few details at the moment concerning Smollett’s role other than TV Line’s report on who she will be playing. It’s not Smollett’s first time working with Rashad; she did several episodes of Cosby over a decade ago, but it has been a while since the two teamed up. Smollett also recently appeared on the short-lived The Defenders and popped up on Fox’s also ill-fated drama The Mob Doctor just this fall.
Do No Harm will take on a tough timeslot, Thursdays at 10 p.m. following NBC’s comedy block. It will premiere on January 31st right after 30 Rock’s series finale airs. No word on when Smollett will appear on the show, but hopefully it lasts long enough that we get to see her.
