I have some comments at the end, but first let’s Bust-a-Move through this episode.

“I want the ‘Thong Song.” – Coach Ken Tanaka

Emma P and Ken Tanaka are engaged but she wants no part of him. Who can blame her for not loving a guy with too tight shorts, knee high socks, some weird facial pocks and an insane case of athlete’s foot? Nevertheless she is going through with it and they need a song for their first dance. They come to Will for some groove and move guidance. Ken wants “The Thong Song” while Emma wants “I Could Dance All Night.” Will thinks he can mash up the songs and teach Emma to dance. Emma shows up to practice in her wedding gown. To placate Ken Tanaka, he runs through a dance version of the “Thong Song.” Will gets a little too into it and they both end up on the floor. Ken sees this happen and thinks they are getting together behind his back.

“How can I help you two? Too many friends on MySpace?”

Emma meets with Finn and Quinn. They need to figure out how to be cool again. Quinn reminds Emma that coolness is like currency and the once cool couples are now “toxic assets.” Finn is even having trouble keeping the respect of his teammates. Coach Tanaka sees this as an opportunity to get back at Will so he schedules football during Glee Club practice. This forces Finn and some other players to choose between the two. Even Will’s apology to Coach Ken isn’t enough. Tanaka is pissed.

“It was a message from God. Rachel was a good Jew and the Good Lord wanted me to get into her pants.” – Noah Puckerman

Noah and Rachel get to some making out after they practice their mash up. But partway through the necking (can we bring back the term “necking?”) Rachel imagines Finn’s face and balks at Puck’s advances. He doesn’t give up so easily and performs “Sweet Caroline” as an ode to his Jewish influences. He briefly wins over Rachel (and maybe even Quinn in the process) and they have a quarter episode romance.

“Sue Sylvester is in love.” – Sue Sylvester

Sue is dating a swinger (not that kind) and she needs some dancing lessons of her own. Rod, the smarmy lead anchor from her news channel spot wants to enter them in a swinging contest. Sue falls head over heels for the guy. On her way to showing him her Zoot-suit she catches Rod making out with another woman. This incident awakens something in Sue that had been missing this episode: Her stop-at-nothing drive to strike down all those who oppose her.

“I could have danced all night.” – Emma Pillsbury

During their final lesson, Will tells Emma about Ken’s ultimatum concerning practice. The Glee Club waits to see who will show. Noah and two other players choose Glee while Finn actually chooses football. But Glee still wants him back. The other members let him know they are his only real friends and even Will tells Finn not too forget where he belongs: singing.

In the final moments, Finn makes an impassioned speech that sways the heartbroken Tanaka into canceling practice, Will says he can’t mash up the two wedding songs (insinuating Emma and Ken shouldn’t get married), and thankfully, all is right with Glee Club.

A few comments and thoughts:

Did anyone else think Will’s rendition of “Busta Move” was more than a little creepy? Just remembering him singing “Wish you could sex her...” to Quinn and company was a little odd. Plus his dancing seemed out of place. All around, a weird scene.

It seemed there was a great deal of homophobic talk from the football players in their disdain of Glee. I am not sure if this was a move on the part of the writers to make some kind of point but, it seemed over the top to me. Any thoughts?

I was so thankful to not have any Terri Schuester in this episode. She brings so little to the show and was definitely not missed at all.

I loved seeing Sue more than a little vulnerable in her feelings toward the douche lead anchor. Could’ve been a match made in hell.

Finn has the worst throwing arm of any starting quarterback in teeny-bopper television history. Thank God he can sing.
