How I Met Your Mother Gets Two More Years From CBS
Even as its anchor show Two And A Half Men drowns in uncertainty and tiger blood, CBS, the best run network on television, continues to move forward as if there’s no problem. They’ve officially renewed the always enjoyable How I Met Your Mother, though the episode count may raise a few eyebrows. The show has gotten the thumbs up for another forty plus episodes. That’s two full seasons and a surprise to plenty of experts. I’m a little less shocked, but I have two theories.
First, the show’s recent syndication deal is a pretty cushy incentive to grind out episodes while they can and secondly, Jason Segel, Neil Patrick Harris and now, Cobie Smulders are all turning into movie stars. If the show ended, they’d probably make more money elsewhere. If they’re agreeing to stay on board, might as well lock ‘em for two years rather than one. I’d be very surprised if they were all as excited about coming back after this contract is up.
According to Deadline, Josh Radnor and Alyson Hannigan are also officially on board, though those two were pretty much a given. How I Met Your Mother may not be quite as fresh as it was two or three years ago, but it’s nonetheless, a highly watchable, highly entertaining program. Well done, CBS. And a big thank you to Jason Segel especially for staying. Someday you’ll make two or three wonderful movies a year, but for now, keep making your biggest fans smile.
