James Cameron should probably be working on Avatar 2 but instead he’s dragging True Lies out of mothballs. Not for another movie, but for a nearly two decades too late TV series, his first TV series since the ill-fated sci-fi show Dark Angel launched the career of Jessica Alba from 2000 to 2002.

Rumors of a True Lies 2 have circulated ever since the success of the original 1994 action-comedy, which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis in the story of a boring husband hiding a secretly exciting life as a super-spy. It is without a doubt one of Cameron’s best movies, but the premise is by now fairly cliché and, it’s hard to imagine anything new being mined from it as a television series. It’s an idea which has pretty much been done to death in the interim. He’s a secret agent and his family doesn’t know? Yeah, we’ve seen that.

But Deadline says 20th Century Fox TV is about to take a True Lies series to the networks soon anyway. The project comes from Cameron’s own Lightstorm Entertainment with Cameron sharing executive producer duties on the show.
