Katy Perry's Sesame Street Ousting: Reasonable Or Oversensitive?
It seems Katy Perry’s not welcome on Sesame Street… or her cleavage isn’t, anyway. So say some of the parents who, after glimpsing the low-cut dress she was wearing in a clip from an upcoming episode, complained and got Perry’s appearance pulled.
According to TV Guide, Perry was set to appear on the 41st season premiere of the popular PBS kids series, but the production company announced that they were pulling the segment after they received complaints.
"In light of the feedback we've received on the Katy Perry music video, which was released on YouTube only, we have decided we will not air the segment on the television broadcast of Sesame Street, which is aimed at preschooler. Katy Perry fans will still be able to view the video on YouTube."
Personally, I don’t think the dress is that bad but I don’t have kids, so I’m not sure I’m allowed to have a say here. Plus, I like Katy Perry, so there’s that bias. Still, is cleavage such a crime? If so, Belle really needs to stop curtseying and Jasmine might consider throwing a sweater on over that top. As for Ariel? Don’t even get me started on her seashell bra. Maybe cartoon cleavage doesn’t count or perhaps Disney’s standards are different than Sesame Street’s. I’m not sure what the rules are on these things.
Decide for yourself if Perry’s dress is too risqué for little ones…
