The on-again-off-again Star Wars live action show has been off-again for awhile now, but for the first time, headman George Lucas has opened up about the reason why. Apparently, the technology is simply too expensive to make the program profitable. Unwilling to cut corners or sacrifice the quality of the visual effects, Lucas has decided to keep the live action show in a holding pattern until the proper cure can be found.

You may remember Dr. Victor Fries was also waiting for a cure, but rather than remain passive, he turned himself into Mr. Freeze and started a criminal enterprise to bankroll research into saving his terminally ill wife. I guess George Lucas isn’t that dedicated, or maybe he just doesn’t want a showdown with Batman.

According to The New York Post, Lucas also revealed over fifty hours of scripts have already been outlined for the show. That’s two seasons just waiting to be shot and have visual effects added whenever this mystery technology hits the market.

While some fans may be annoyed and ready to see the episodes now, it’s likely a good decision to hold off. There’s no point in producing a show you know will hemorrhage money, and there’s no point in putting out a product that looks like a SyFy original movie.
