Red Carpet Interviews With Gossip Girl Stars

At all the red carpet premieres I've been to, there's usually the stars from the movie, and then a handful of random celebrities or so-called celebrities who are there for no apparent reason. Usually you just stare in confusion when Stephen Colbert walks by, but sometimes you get a chance to chat with the stars of the greatest TV show of all time. I'm talking, of course, about Gossip Girl, which I don't even watch but seems to be just as enjoyable as 90210, which I'm all for. I talked for some brief minutes to Matthew Settle, a.k.a. Rufus Humphrey, and Connor Paolo, a.k.a. Eric van der Woodsen. They haven't started filming the new season yet, so they didn't have any plot details to share, but they did have plenty of thoughts about being part of a veritable TV phenomenon. Well, it's opened the door for me. I just got a romantic comedy with Heather Graham and Jennifer Coolidge and Joey Lauren Adams. I never got to do comedy before, and I know Gossip Girl is not a comedy, but it's in the public eye enough that it opened that door for me. So that's been a bonus. And then, on the street, my wife and I will be walking down the street, and we get spotted and stuff. It's fun. We can't be drunk, facedown in the gutter anymore. People like the show. I get these funny looksf rom men who were fans of Band of Brothers, because I played this different, different character in that show. They're like, 'You know, my wife makes me watch it, but your' really good on the show.' They begrudgingly say they watch Gossip Girl. Connor Paolo (Eric van der Woodsen) So a year ago would you have been at one of these things, and would you have imagined being introduced as 'Connor Paolo from Gossip Girl'? It's been an experience. To be a celebrity in New York City-- I consider myself at the small end of that. So I'm shocked this stuff happens. There are many different aspects of the business. There are many different aspects of being an actor, and this is one of them. You guys are always getting spotted on the street too. Well, Blake Lively, who is this big [he gestures very high], you know, like a towering moon goddess, and I have these highlights, and Chase you can spot from the moon, and Taylor towers over everyone. You've got a lot of people with really bright hair. Does it feel weird when people stare from the other side of the street? No. Being a New Yorker makes you numb to thinks very, very quickly. So for the first day, sure. Do you have any hopes for the new season? I'm hoping for some Eric-Chuck time. And Eric gets badass. And I just hope it keeps going the way its going. I think it's great.
