If Sugar Ray’s Mark McGrath can hang up his mic to be a celebrity correspondent on Extra, why can’t Shirley Manson from Garbage make the leap to the small screen? Manson, the red-haired lead singer of 90s pop-grunge band Garbage, is slated to appear in a recurring role on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. According to The Hollywood Reporter, she’ll be playing Catherine Weaver, the CEO of a cutting-edge high-tech company.
There isn’t any more information on how Weaver fits into the storyline, but expect her to be important, as she is described as a regular character. Sarah Connor debuted midseason on Fox and became the highest-rated scripted series of the 07-08 season. The show returns in the fall with brand-new episodes.
I know a lot of people groan when actors and musicians try to cross over, but in general, musicians who try to act fare a whole lot better than actors who try to make music (lest we forget the Eddie Murphy 80s classic, “Party all the Time”). Ludacris was kind of my favorite part of Crash, and one of my favorite parts of Hustle & Flow, and well, I guess I just really like Ludacris. The point is, Shirley Manson has a Scottish accent and that is rad. Wait, is that the point?
What do you guys think? Is her fiery hair and Scottish accent enough to make her an asset to Sarah Connor, or should she stay in the recording studio where she belongs?
