USA Suits Up For A Second Season Of Suits

In good but not entirely surprising news, USA has given Suits an order for a second season. What’s more, they’ve bumped up the size of the season by four episodes as compared to the currently airing freshman series, which premiered last June.

Suits stars Gabriel Macht, Patrick J. Adams, Rick Hoffman, Gina Torres, Sarah Rafferty and Meghan Markle. The series follows an experienced New York attorney, Harvey Specter, who decides to take a chance and hire a bright but inexperienced college drop-out named Mike Ross, to serve as his new associate. What Mike lacks in legitimate legal credentials, he makes up for with street-smarts and a photographic memory. In the grand tradition of USA summer series, the show is a little bit drama, a little bit funny, and the right amount of clever and charming to keep things interesting and amusing.

“SUITS exceeded our expectations on every level with its sharp writing, engaging ensemble cast and incredible production values,” said Chris McCumber and Jeff Wachtel, co-presidents, USA Network. “Quickly embraced by our viewers, critics and the industry as a series that pushes the envelope of the USA brand, we needed no further evidence to greenlight a second season.”

USA says the series is #1 in its timeslot (Thursdays at 10:00 p.m.) in all key demos, but I’m wondering if they’re going on data based before Jersey Shore resumed with new episodes as of last Thursday night (bringing in 8.8 million viewers for the season premiere). Regardless, the first season is doing well and will wrap up on September 8th. Season 2 will consist of twelve episodes. According to USA’s announcement, Season 2 will consist of 16 one-hour episodes.
