Details On Superman II: The Donner Cut

The long lusted after Richard Donner cut of Superman II is finally coming, Warner Brothers officially announced its impending release on DVD this week.

From DVD Times through FilmStalker comes the details. The Region 1 version of Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut will hit shelves on November 28, 2006 and should retail for a reasonable $24.98.

Unlike the version of the film you're all used to, this one will represent Superman II as it was originally planned and conceived by Donner. He'd completed nearly 75% of the film anyway, before being thrown off the project and replaced. So this version will return the other 25% to what he had in mind.

So, look for original Donner shot footage in the set that's never been seen or used before. Rumor has it that this will include a completely new beginning, a new ending, 15-minutes of restored Brando as Jor-El, and a lot more.

The bad news is that the Donner Cut will not be included in the massive, all-encompassing 8-disc Christopher Reeve Superman Collection box set Warners is planning. They'll stick the Richard Lester version in there, and if you want the Donner Cut you'll have to buy it separately. Watch the trailer for the Superman Collection and the Donner Cut by clicking here.
