Disney Becomes The Magical World Of Blu-Ray In 2009

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has big plans for 2009, most of which are blue. The main goal of their efforts is to provide their customers with maximum accessibility.

Are you in the process of making the transition from DVD to Blu-ray? Frustrated with only being able to play your Blu-ray disc in a specific player? WDSHE has got you covered. 2009 will be the year of the Blu-ray and DVD Combo Pack. Some of the films that will come in this convenient package are High School Musical 3: Senior Year (February 17th), Pinocchio: 70th Anniversary Platinum Edition (March 10th) and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Platinum Edition (October).

Thank you Disney! I completely understand why everyone praises the rise of the BD, but you must admit, they’re expensive. The picture the discs offer are pristine, but most people don’t have the funds to totally switch their library. Secondly, many people watch their movies in other locations, not just at home. For instance, most computers don’t come equipped with Blu-ray players and neither do entertainment systems installed in cars. As longs as these sets come at affordable prices, this concept has the potential of affecting the entire market and perhaps other companies following suit.

Another element WDSHE has recognized the convenience of is the digital copy. There aren’t many people who don’t have access to some sort of portable media player. Throughout the past year I’ve seen a number of commuters trade in their morning paper for an iPod. Fourteen of WDSHE’s new Blu-ray titles including Beverly Hills Chihuahua, Monsters Inc., and A Bugs Life will be accompanied by a DisneyFilm digital copy.

WDSHE continues its push toward a Blu-ray world by releasing a significant number of films in the format. This collection does not only include new releases, but catalog, direct-to-video, and television series as well. In the new year you’ll see Pretty Woman, Sin City, Miracle, Pulp Fiction, Lost: The Complete First and Second Seasons and Good Will Hunting: Special Edition all on Blu-ray. Even though I most certainly won’t be able to afford all of these titles, I know I’ll want them. The only thing missing from Disney’s Blu-ray slate for 2009 is the announcement of a major price reduction. Oh well, there’s always my birthday.
