Disney Unlocks Peter Pan On DVD

Some people complain about Disney’s practice of releasing, and then unreleasing their classics on home video… but I love it. It makes owning their animated movies on DVD seem somehow special. Plus, it lights a fire under my ass to get out and buy them while they’re available. For instance on March 6th I’ll be in a store buying the new 2-disc platinum edition of Peter Pan. Get it right away, because before long Disney will pull it right back off the shelves.

Disney has just sent us a look at their cover art for the movie, as well as an example of what kind of bonus material you’ll find on the disc. It seems that the animation for much of the film was based on early stage performances, which Disney animators used for reference. So, they’ve sent us a few stills illustrating the kind of old stage performance shots those artists used. If you’re not a Disney geek, your eyes have already glazed over. But for me, I eat this stuff up. Disney’s new platinum releases are always rich with in depth details on the studio’s history and it looks like Peter Pan will be no exception.
