A Double Dose Of Action On DVD
Need some action in your life? Well, I don’t think I can help you out with the kind of action you’re thinking of, but First Look Studios plans to release two action-packed thrillers on DVD October 7th.
Steven Seagal in a crime thriller? Really? Kill Switch is the story of Jacob King (Seagal), a disturbed homicide detective on the trail of two brutal serial killers. While one simply enjoys torturing his victims the other puts a little more thought into his kills. He leaves encrypted clues of an astrological nature. What a novel idea! No suspenseful crime flick would be complete without a pretty lady to accompany the brooding detective. Enter Frankie Miller (Holly Dignard), an FBI Agent assigned to shadow King. A streetwise cop, beautiful woman, vicious killers and huge explosions; if action thriller is the type of movie you typically pop into the DVD player, this one certainly has all the necessary elements.
Now, what happens when you put a sci-fi twist on Kill Switch? You get Cyborg Soldier. Troubled soldier, pretty girl and lots of explosions; the recipe for another perfect action film. Former UFC Middleweight Champion Rich Franklin plays I.S.A.A.C. (Intuitive Synthetic Autonomous Assault Commando), a result of a confidential human weapon program. Isaac turns on his creator and teams up with a local sheriff department officer, Lindsey Reardon (Tiffani Thiessen), to bring down the corrupt military institution looking to build more of these merciless killing machines.
I’m a big fan of novelty in plots and get enough science fiction from my dad’s addiction to the Sci-Fi Channel, but an afternoon of boredom could be assuaged by one of these straight-to-DVD flicks. But I’d really rather not spend the $28.98 on Kill Switch or the $24.98 on Cyborg Soldier, especially when the only special features are subtitles and previews. So I’ll just be keeping my fingers crossed that I’ll be able to catch them on the DVR sometime soon.
