Go Back To The Fringe On Blu-Ray And DVD September 14th

Fringe really hit its stride in season two. After an unsteady freshman year full of monsters of the week and a rather wooden lead in Special Agent Olivia Dunham, the show ramped up the overarching mythology, evolved John Noble's Dr. Walter Bishop into a truly tragic figure, and even managed to make Olivia semi-interesting. And by God, I think Joshua Jackson finally managed to make me forget Pacey!

With its first season finale, Fringe revealed a parallel universe where the World Trade Center still stood, and in the process set the stage for the show's primary arc: the confrontation between Us and Them, a brewing interdimensional war that will likely leave only one reality intact. This gave even the one-off episodes a better sense of momentum and purpose, and the show truly shined as it slowly examined how Walter's past choices had lead to most of the current problems. The relationship between Walter and Peter has become one of my favorites currently being explored on television, alternately hilarious and heartbreaking -- and that's something I never would have thought I'd say during the show's lackluster first season. Plus: Leonard Nimoy!
