Look Deep Into This Collection To See The Pink Panther

Are you actually looking forward to The Pink Panther 2? MGM Home Entertainment has the perfect way to celebrate the film’s release – The Pink Panther Film Collection. On January 27th you can pick up a box set full of Jacques Clouseau’s antics and then top it all of with a trip to the theaters to see Steve Martin reprise his role on February 6th.

The collection begins with the 1964 classic, the original Pink Panther. The “Pink Panther” is the largest diamond in the world. Rumor has it; if you stare directly into it, you can actually see a pink panther. The diamond is given to a young princess as a gift from her father, but the infamous jewel theft “The Phantom” is determined to take it for himself. A French inspector, Jacque Clouseau, has only one thing in mind: bring down The Phantom. Unfortunately, Clouseau’s incredible clumsiness sends his investigation through numerous episodes of absurdity.

The original film is followed by A Shot in the Dark, The Pink Panther Strikes Again, The Revenge of the Pink Panther, The Trail of the Pink Panther, The Curse of the Pink Panther and finally, The Son of the Pink Panther. The adventures continue with a number of bonus features including audio commentary from writer Blake Edwards, five featurettes and The Pink Panther trailer. For over 700 minutes of Panther, you’re looking at a grand total of $69.98.

If you’re trying to save up for your own Pink Panther diamond, you may opt to buy the Pink Panther Collector’s Edition for $34.99 on Blu-ray or $14.98 on DVD. You won’t get all of the subsequent films, but you will still get the bonus material.

Being that The Pink Panther films are little beyond my years, I am much more familiar with the animated series, thanks to VHS. If you’re like me, no need to worry because MGM Home Entertainment is also releasing the Pink Panther Classic Cartoon Collection. It comes with nine volumes of the cartoon including the Academy Award-winning The Pink Phink. If you don’t want to spend the $69.98 for the entire set, you can pick up each volume individually for a price of $14.98.

I am much more familiar with Steve Martin than Peter Sellers, so I’m looking for some sort of connection to the newest installment of the film series. It’s not much, but if you choose to buy any of the films or the cartoon volumes individually, you’ll get e-Movie Cash for the release of Pink Panther 2. They could have at least included the 2006 release of Pink Panther in the film collection. Hasn’t MGM looked at the billboard charts? Beyonce means sales!
