The Movie Is As Sweet As Extract But The Bonus Material Isn't

Sick of watching Office Space over and over? Probably not, but there’s nothing wrong with throwing another Mike Judge film into the mix. Thanks to Miramax Films and Buena Vista Home Entertainment, you can own Judge’s latest exploration of hilarity at the workplace. Get a taste of Extract on DVD and Blu-ray December 22nd.

Joel (Jason Bateman) has a nice life. He lives in a beautiful home with his loving wife (Kristen Wiig) and owns a successful extract business. Everything comes crashing down when an employee (Clifton Collins Jr.) is injured on a job. Now, not only is Joel facing a lawsuit, he’s also got to worry about the disgruntled staff demanding a bigger stake in the company, his attraction to the newest hire (Mila Kunis), and the aftermath of a scheme to get his wife to cheat on him so he can rationalize his own sexual desires.

Sadly, a Mike Judge film starring Bateman, Kunis, Wiig, Collins, Ben Affleck, and J.K. Simmons doesn't seem to merit a decent set of bonus features. The DVD only includes “Mike Judge’s Secret Recipe,” which takes a look at, well, Judge’s filmmaking recipe. Making the jump from spending $29.99 on the DVD to $39.99 on the Blu-ray only adds five extended scenes and one deleted scene. Seriously? No commentary? No gag reel? I’m eager to recommend seeing Extract but the disappointing special features make me hesitant to vouch for purchasing the DVD or Blu-ray. Just try suckering someone into getting it for you for the holidays.
