See You At The Opera; REPO! On DVD And Blu-Ray

Forget plastic surgery. It’s all about organ transplants now. Check out the latest trend when Lionsgate Home Entertainment release REPO! The Genetic Opera on DVD and Blu-ray January 20th.

It’s the year 2056 and a catastrophic epidemic of organ failures hits the world. Have no fear, GeneCo is here. The biotech company has an abundance of organs to give, but they come at a hefty price. GeneCo doesn’t recognize the concept of late fees. If you fail to make your payment on time, you’ll receive an unfriendly visit from the Repo Man who is responsible for reclaiming GeneCo’s property. While the rest of the world obsesses over surgery and painkillers, a young girl named Shilo (Alexa Vega) desperately searches for a cure to her rare blood disease. It isn’t until the night of the great Genetic Opera that Shilo’s questions are finally answered.

Don’t expect Mamma Mia! or Hairspray from this film. Think more along the lines of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The plot sounds rather intriguing, but the one thing that really throws me off if the presence of Paris Hilton. Does she sing? She did have that one hit song, Stars are Blind. But for some reason, I don’t think that’ll fit very well in REPO!. I’m expecting reactions to this film to be toss-up. Either you like the style of the film or you don’t. I must admit, I’m curious.

If your own curiosity draws you to this film, you’ll also get to check out audio commentary from the film’s director (Darren Lynn Bousman), actors (Bill Moseley, Alexa Vega and Ogre), co-creators (Darren Smith and Terrance Zdunich) and music producer (Joseph Bishara). The DVD also includes the “From Stage to Screen” featurette and the theatrical trailer. If you go for the Blu-ray version, you’ll also get some commentary from Paris Hilton, deleted scenes, video sing-a-longs and three webisode featurettes.
