Marvel Vs Capcom: Infinite's Trailer Is Action Packed And Awesome

It's been rumored all week long that Capcom was going to unveil the newest Marvel vs Capcom in during the PlayStation Experience this weekend, but those rumors just became a reality when the game was officially announced during Sony's PSX 16 stage conference.

The trailer was posted up immediately after airing at PSX 16 on the Marvel Entertainment YouTube channel. The trailer is just a minute and a half long and starts with Mega Man X bending down to grab a glowing orb. It gets blasted out of his reach from what appears to be Iron Man. Ryu steps in to lift up Mega Man X and the two partner up as the Mark IV Iron Man suit lands -- repulsors at the ready.

X and Iron Man face off in a challenge of blasters. Iron Man is able to overpower X, leading Ryu to run in with a powerful combo attack. If this is any indication of what can happen in the actual game, this would be pretty amazing. Shooting dual lasers/fireballs/plasma/rays at each other and getting a button-mashing QTE would be pretty awesome in the upcoming Marvel vs Capcom game.

One thing worth noting is that Ryu grabbed the glowing orb and used it to power-up his attack, indicating that this new Marvel vs Capcom could have gems like in Street Fighter x Tekken.

Ryu manages to get the better of Iron Man in CQC, using a dragon uppercut to knock him into the air, only for Captain Marvel to make the save. Captain Marvel powers-up and then punches and kicks Ryu around. The four heroes from their respective brands square off and we have a nice little showdown setup.

The trailer ends with a look at a mysterious figure in a chair with glowing eyes. The comment section was quick to point out that it was likely Ultron, thus making him the main villain of the game. Some thought that maybe -- due to the trailer focusing on Mega Man X -- that Ultron may have fused with Sigma, and we could get a crossover Ultron x Sigma boss. The implications of that could be uncanny.

Quite naturally, fans of Marvel vs Capcom were quick to flood the comment section with all sorts of requests for characters. Some of the bigger requests came in the form of Daredevil, The Punisher, Venom and Black Panther. Obviously, the Daredevil Netflix series had a lot to do with the suggestion of the blind vigilante making the cut.

Due to the proper treatment of the character Bucky Barnes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there were various calls for the Winter Soldier to make an appearance, especially after being written so well in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War.

The list of characters continued to grow in the comment section, as fans poured in from both the comic book universe and video game universe. It's amazing to see how the debates broke out on two separate fronts, with gamers talking about characters and their abilities from Marvel comics as well as comparing them to Capcom's titles such as Mega Man X, Street Fighter and Asura's Wrath. Hopefully they do add in Asura, because he would give the Marvel universe more than a match, and he's probably one of the most powerful and underutilized characters in Capcom's stash. Adding Necalli wouldn't be a bad touch, either.

Marvel Vs Capcom: Infinite is due for release in 2017 for Steam, PS4 and Xbox One.
