Battlefield Hardline is a game in which cops and criminals wage open war against each other. The game's not nearly as grim as you'd expect, though. In fact, it's hilarious.
You might not have even noticed the funniest part: the reloading animations. Visceral Games managed to sneak some very amusing animations into the game. In one, a player uses the power of his mind to put a fresh clip into his gun (via NeoGAF):
This player uses his street magic skills while reloading his pistol
I've played a lot of Hardline's ongoing beta - and wrote a fair amount about its new Hotwire mode - but never noticed any of these animations. The reason is probably because they're very rare. In a video released by Visceral, one of the developers reveals that there's only a one in 10,000 chance at finding a given animation. Also, it only happens when you reload a completely empty clip:
Even if I was lucky enough to have one of these animations happen, I still probably wouldn't have noticed it. At this point, I'm conditioned not to even look at my reload. I'm usually watching the center of the screen, hoping that some enemy won't round the corner until I've popped a fresh clip into my gun. I imagine many of players have the same kind of tunnel vision and missed the unexpected comedy of Hardline.
Since that video was published, fans found several other animations. They're as bizarre as the other two:
Hardline's beta will end on Sunday. The full game will then launch in mid-March on PC, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PS3.
