The “infected” in Naughty Dog's upcoming The Last of Us have been kept under wraps for the longest. Yeah, there was that disturbing bust that was let loose for public viewing and a brief spot of the vegetable zombies in the CG trailer, but now we're finally seeing the dangers of these things in some unfiltered gameplay action with the latest trailer.

A lot of gamers are already claiming that The Last of Us will capture the game of year awards at this year's upcoming Spike TV VGAs. I think it's still too early to say if the game will be a GOTY contender but it's certainly looking intense and entertaining, to say the least.

To be honest, this was a lot less interesting, as a trailer, than the previous ones involving the other bandits and raiders. I think it's the sort of unconventional, humanized view of the raiders that make it so intense, where-as the vegetable zombies are just zombies with vegetables for heads. Still, the fact that it has such a diverse variety of enemy encounters really adds some nice flavor to the game, making it one of a kind.

Still, the game is shaping up nicely and is prepping for release on May 7th, exclusively for the PlayStation 3. You can pre-order the game right now by visiting the Official Website.
