Today EA Sports revealed that they're developing an NHL game exclusively for the Wii. NHL Slapshot will be released in September.

The cover athlete for the game is Wayne Gretzky. The guy's been retired for over a decade but I guess his name recognition is still head and shoulders above any contemporary players. He'll be a playable character, too, and with any luck you'll be able to make his head bleed.

Of course, it wouldn't be a Wii game without some new piece of plastic to wave around. Slapshot will support a new hockey stick controller that lets you "shoot, pass, and body check just like the pros." The price of this peripheral wasn't disclosed.
