Some movies are really meant to be seen on the big screen, and based on the trailers, the Peter Berg directed action film Battleship seems like a prime example of that. While the film isn’t set to hit theaters in the U.S. until next month, some will have the chance to see the movie on an even bigger screen before then.

IMAX and Universal announced today that Battleship is set to be digitally re-mastered for IMAX screens and beginning April 12, will be released in over 100 select IMAX theaters across the globe. This includes China and Russia. The announcement on the film’s conversion to IMAX promises “crystal-clear images, coupled with IMAX's customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio, create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.”
"We're excited to partner with Universal Pictures to bring this Hasbro property to life in select international IMAX theatres," said Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed Entertainment. "Battleship's powerful action and incredible visuals are a great fit for the IMAXformat and will offer those IMAX fans an edge-of-your seat, mind-blowing experience they simply won't want to miss."

Battleship is described as “an epic-scale action-adventure that unfolds across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force.” The cast includes Friday Night Lights alums Taylor Kitsch and Jesse Plemons, as well as Liam Neeson, Alexander Skarsgard, Rihanna and Peter MacNicol. Also among the cast is The Social Network’s non-Armie-Hammer Winklevoss twin Josh Pence. The cast alone draws my interest, but the trailers also sell explosions and lots of other snippets that will likely look great on an IMAX screen.
