Ridley Scott already has everyone amped up about his new film Prometheus, but his follow-up project may soon start getting equal amounts of buzz, thanks to the frankly insane caliber of stars he's lining up to be part of it. We learned a few days ago that Angelina Jolie was interested in a part, and now Deadline confirms that news, adding that Javier Bardem and Brad Pitt are also in talks to join, with Michael Fassbender already on board. If you need to catch your breath after reading through all that starpower, I'll give you a minute.

Scott is aiming to start production in late June, just after Prometheus opens, and while Fox is still in talks to distribute, it's hard to imagine they wouldn't pull out all the stops to get their hands on this project. Despite the generic title, the story is anything but slow-- it's Cormac McCarthy's first original screenplay, and will star Fassbender as a lawyer who thinks he can get rich in the drug game, only to find himself in way over his head. It's unclear how Jolie, Pitt or Bardem might fit into the story, but I'm going to guess nobody cares-- the fact that they're all on board at all is enough to get everybody interested.

It's a little strange to see Scott make such a forceful return to his genre roots with Prometheus, only to move on to something completely different, but he's never seemed to want to make the same thing twice throughout his career. Even if Prometheus doesn't turn out as spectacular as we're all hoping, he's got all the ingredients in place to make The Counselor worth anticipating anyway.
