Crowe And Kidman Team With Baz

What would have happened if Baz Luhrman’s version of Alexander had made it to theaters instead of Oliver Stone’s? Though at one point he insisted that he was pushing ahead with his version anyway, it looks like we’ll never know. Baz’s next project won’t involve the young, ambiguously gay conqueror. Instead, according to Production Weekly he’ll start shooting on an Australian-based period epic starring Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe this May.

The director of flamboyant movies like Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge! (also starring Nicole Kidman) is tackling what’s described as the Australian Gone with the Wind. So I guess that means Nicole will be shining slaves. The movie is a sweeping romance epic set around the time of World War II.

It’s being shot in the remote outback, where they in fact do not eat Bloomin’ Onions. With such a remote location, Baz will be building his sets from scratch. What exactly those sets will be is as unknown as the movie’s title. All we know is that there will be kissing… and that at some point during the production Russell Crowe will probably hit someone.
