Well it seems I’m not the only one who thinks the marketing for My Best Friend’s Girl looks like hairy ass. So does the movie’s star, Dane Cook. He left a message on his MySpace Blog this morning in which he rips the movie’s incredibly banal, generic poster to shreds. Says Cook, “My left side looks like Britney Spears' vagina.”
I’m not sure if that’s fair to Britney, but the poster itself definitely does look like some sort of unwashed sex organ. Unfortunately, Cook is far less circumspect about the movie itself. Though he hates the poster, he insists that My Best Friend’s Girl is the “funniest film” he’s done yet. Of course when you look at his resume, that’s not exactly the high praise it might seem. But he also thinks “It's got a terrific cast” and cites Kate Hudson, Alec Baldwin, and Jason Biggs as examples of its terrificness. One of those people are terrific, the other two are punchlines, and not very funny ones.
While it’s entertaining and refreshing to have an actor actually come out and call a spade a spade, at least where his poster is concerned, the poster is really the least of this movie’s problems. I’d say all of its marketing materials are pretty awful, starting with the trailer and working down to even individual clips like this one which we brought you last week. My Best Friend’s Girl looks really, really bad and I doubt a better poster would do much to change that.
