For me Tony Scott has always been a hit or miss director, but not when it comes to working with Denzel Washington. So far everything Denzel has been in for him has ended up fantastic, in particular their last movie together the 2006 movie Deja Vu. People seem to either love Deja Vu or hate it, but for the record if you hate it you’re wrong.
For those of us who are right, get excited because Scott and Washington are getting back together for another flick. EW says Denzel is in negotiations to join the cast of the Tony Scott helmed remake of a movie called The Taking of Pelham One Two Three. The original 1974 movie starred Walter Mathau in the story of a hijacked New York subway train and the police Lieutenant who tries to save its occupants. In the Mathau version the train is held hostage for ransom, but if I were Scott I’d change it to go for modern relevance and make the hijackers Arab terrorists demanding an end to US aggression… or whatever it is that terrorists are demanding these days. Lately they seem mostly to want everyone in the world dead. Not sure a hijacking can help them with that.
This would be the fourth time Scott and Washington have worked together. The first time was in the viciously tense submarine warfare movie Crimson Tide, in which Denzel goes head to head with Gene Hackman, aided by not yet famous actor Viggo Mortensen.
