When there’s something strange in your neighborhood, who you gonna – look, you know the rest, okay? The new Ghostbusters trailer officially hit the web earlier today, and it’s safe to say that it has taken the world by storm. Paul Feig’s female-fronted update on the paranormal comedy classic seems to hit all of the necessary beats and has everyone beyond excited. To further stoke that fire, a new viral site has launched to provide us with nealy endless bits of insight about the upcoming reboot. Check out a new behind-the-scenes video below to see more.
A seemingly legit website for the film’s "Paranormal Studies Lab," the site actually serves as a viral marketing stunt for the upcoming Ghostbusters. As you can see from the video above, it offers special a behind-the-scenes look at the production of the Ghostbusters update, and how the filmmakers went about designing many of the film’s props. One of the most interesting aspects of the entire thing stems from the fact that almost everything portrayed on screen has at least some basis in scientific reality; the biggest stretches of the imagination come less from the weapons that the titular team of paranormal investigators use to fight ghosts, and more from their compact size. Could proton packs be on the horizon for real?
The whole website really is brimming with content. Aside from the above behind-the-scenes video, one can also see numerous schematics and designs for pieces of equipment that the four female Ghostbusters will utilize during the film. Just like in the classic series, everything looks comically thrown together in a piecemeal fashion while still looking as though it could somehow function in a genuinely scientific manner.
We can’t sing the praises of this website enough. It’s a genius piece of viral marketing that the filmmakers subtly inserted into today’s trailer. Amid all of the scientific jargon scrawled on a white board during a seemingly irrelevant shot, they slipped in the URL (Parnormalstudieslab.com). Check out the image below to see if you can find it.
The Ghostbusters viral website is the perfect place for any fan of the franchise to kill an entire afternoon. It not only provides us with a ton of insight about the upcoming reboot, but it also has us beyond excited for the other secret Easter Eggs that Paul Feig, Kristen Wiig, and all of the rest have in store for us. The Ghostbusters reboot hits theaters this summer on July 15.
