Greengrass Takes Damon Into Iraq

Matt Damon loves working with director Paul Greengrass, and even though it looks like Bourne Ultimatum will be his last Bourne movie with them, the duo have found a new project to team up on. Variety says Matt is looking to star in Paul Greengrass’s adaptation of Imperial Life in the Emerald City.

The book the movie will be based on is a controversial account of life in Baghdad’s Green Zone. For those of you who don’t spend a lot of time listening to NPR, the Green Zone is a walled off enclave of posh villas and plants serving as the headquarters for the American operation of Iraq. It’s also the only place where you’re unlikely to be shot or blown up.

Greengrass showed he has the right kind of sensitivity and good sense to tackle a hot-button issue like this with United 93. The guy can be trusted to deliver an unbiased and accurate look at what’s going on. To make that happen, he’ll have Matt Damon play a character composed of several different figures in the book.
