Greenlight Help For Red State?

I’ve been intrigued ever since Kevin Smith announced that he wanted to do a horror picture. I’ve always been supportive of the idea of Smith pushing himself as a filmmaker (part of why I wanted to see him do Green Hornet), and horror seems like the popular choice these days (Smith announced his intentions before Joss Whedon and Judd Apatow made similar decisions). Of course, leave it to Smith to come up with a movie that is practically unfilmable, and a story that his usual financiers weren’t interested in following.

Whether Smith’s Red State would ever get made is a question that arrived the moment the Weinsteins decided they were going to pass on the film. Since then, Smith has remained adamant that Red State would be his next picture, but also has openly admitted finding financing was going to be tough. Apparently he has more people helping him search now though. According to News Askew, Smith told the crowd at Saturday’s Hartford Q&A that the folks behind Project Greenlight are lending their resources in support of finding funding for Red State.

Hmmm… by saying the folks behind Project Greenlight, does Smith mean his buddies Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, or some of the other people there? The report doesn’t go into details, but any support for Smith to bring Red State to fruition is a good thing. Let’s hope we hear news about a real green light for Red State soon!
