Halo Film Team Moves To Another District

The long awaited Halo project may have been shelved indefinitely, but Peter Jackson and would-be Halo director Neil Blomkamp are still going to make a movie. The Jackson-produced District 9 has been picked up by Sony for distribution, reports Variety.

Little is known about Jackson and Blomkamp’s District 9 other than it’s a science-fiction piece that the two turned to when Halo plans fell through. This actually sounds promising even without information. Fans seemed concerned about Blomkamp’s ability to direct a feature-length picture when he was signed to the video game adaptation. Previous work by the director includes more short films and commercial work than feature films. Even though fans were wowed by Blomkamp’s Halo 3 commercials, the argument was made that they still didn’t show his ability, since they were 60-90 second pieces.

Sony will distribute the picture while QED International will finance the production. Jackson will produce the picture under his Wingnut Films banner with Weta Workshop lined up to provide visual effects. It seems all the behind-the-scenes people are lined up. Now all we need is to know the story and who Blomkamp will recruit to star in the picture that could prove his ability as a director to the masses.
