Heigl Set For Potential Chuck Ripoff

Katherine Heigl-- inexplicably America's new romantic comedy sweetheart--- has a new project lined up, and it sounds at first blush an awful lot like the NBC series Chuck. Maybe it's just because I've been watching that show a lot lately, since I'm reviewing the season 1 DVD, but tell me the concept for Drawn Together doesn't sound familiar: "The film centers on an electronics designer who meets the woman of his dreams, only to find out that she's not who she seems to be. " Doesn't that sound an awful lot like the first episode of Chuck, when an electronics store employee meets the woman of his dreams, only to find out that she's actually a CIA agent?

The Hollywood Reporter has the story on the project, which is written by Keith Merryman and David A. Newman. Never content to work with just one romantic comedy at a time, the two are also working on the CW series The How-To Girl, which is based on the Kate Hudson movie How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days. And since Katherine Heigl is the new Kate Hudson, the two are already on their way up the ladder.

Honestly, it's nice to see that Heigl is moving into something that's potential more action-oriented-- it would be very easy for her to stick around the usual romantic comedy ghetto for the rest of her career. All I'm saying is that I hold the characters from Chuck very dearly, and if this is a knockoff, I will refuse to accept it. Heigl, you've been warned.
