It was only a few years ago that the movie going audience couldn't get enough of penguins - and they were showing up everywhere: March of the Penguins and the smooth voice of Morgan Freeman was making everyone go "awww"; Happy Feet gave everyone an excuse to look up pictures of baby penguins on Google Images and laugh at Robin Williams again; and Madagascar featured a small group of tuxedo ice birds planning an organized escape from a New York zoo. Then, as quickly as they came, they were gone. But Mr. Popper's Penguins looks to bring them back.
USA Today (opens in new tab) has posted five new stills from the film featuring Jim Carrey as the titular Mr. Popper taking care of his waddle of penguins (yes, I looked up what a group of penguins is called). Looking at these images it's fairly easy to tell why we fell in love with these flightless birds in the first place: they're awesome. Directed by Mark Waters, the film co-stars Carla Gugino, Madeline Carroll, Angela Lansbury, Ophelia Lovibond, and Philip Baker Hall and is set to be released on August 12.
