Lionsgate Taking You To Hostel A Third Time?

News surrounding Eli Roth’s Hostel franchise cooled down after the second movie’s less impressive reception in theaters. I suppose we shouldn’t have expected that to last long though. When there’s a studio involved, any idea worth exploiting is bound to come back again. Sure enough, rumors of a Hostel III have started to appear, although they aren’t exactly what fans of the franchise may have been hoping for.

According to Blody-Disgusting.com, while plans for a third movie are starting to move forward from Lionsgate and Sony’s Screen Gems, creator Eli Roth is not going to be involved. He won’t be writing; He won’t be directing. His brainchild will be in someone else’s hands, and without a writer or director announced, that means the studio’s hands.

I had very little interest in Hostel to begin with. In fact, the only thing that drew me to the movie was Roth himself. Without him attached to a third movie, this looks like this is just a sequel for money-making’s sake, which almost never turn out well. Considering the difference in box office results between the first Hostel and Hostel II, I’m surprised anyone would think of this as a money-making opportunity, which makes me think this will probably wind up being a direct to DVD venture when all is said and done.
