Nightmare On Elm Street Remake Still Really Happening

I've seen the new Friday the 13th, and I can't say much other than, uh, maybe the series reboot wasn't really the best idea. But that won't stop Platinum Dunes from stomping all over horror franchises fondly remembered from our childhood. They're still plowing away at a new Nightmare on Elm Street

Samuel Bayer, who has only made music videos up to the point, will be directing, according to THR. OK, fine, he's made some pretty iconic videos-- "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and Blind Melon's "No Rain"-- but still, is that Freddy Krueger material? Apparently the guy has turned down horror movie offers from Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes before, but when Freddy Krueger is involved, I guess it's an offer you can't refuse.

There's still no Krueger in sight, but after seeing up-and-comer Derek Mears take on Jason, I'm betting it won't exactly be a boldfaced name that gets cast. I get theoretical potential in restarting a new franchise with entirely new talent, but seriously, maybe some things, like Jason's corpse, are just meant to be left alone.
