That didn’t take very long at all.

Shortly after the viral site for Guillermo Del Toro’s massive Pacific Rim went live, the first official clip arrived. Edited together like a choppy news telecast (while borrowing a page from the Cloverfield book of storytelling), the video shows the aftermath of a monster attack on San Francisco. Let’s just say that the Golden Gate Bridge doesn’t make it. See for yourself:

Humanity’s going to need some giant freaking robots to combat Del Toro’s giant freaking monsters. And from what we’ve been hearing, humans are going to be piloting robots the size of skycrapers as the tackle sea monsters, Godzilla, kaiju and whatever else Pacific Rim throws up on the screen. Like what, you say? Good, because Wired weighs in with blueprints for how to build your own Jaegar robot, which soldiers will use to fend off the creature threat in next summer’s blockbuster. Get busy building:

Pacific Rim worked fans into a lather with its presentation at San Diego Comic Con last summer. Now they’re fired up for what Del Toro has in store for them next summer. The movie co-stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Charlie Day and Ron Perlman. It’s set to open everywhere in 3D on July 12, 2013. And hopefully the viral campaign will continue to produce new footage, giving us better shots of Del Toro’s monsters, and the humans who are brave enough to fight them.
