When talking about the best comedic stars of today, it's hard to find one that isn't in some way connected to David Wain. Thanks to his work on The State, Wet Hot American Summer, Role Models, The Ten and Wainey Days, the writer/director has worked with almost every single comedy star today, including Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd. Long before the two actors were facing off against one another on Parks and Recreation they were both part of the ensemble cast that made up Wet Hot American Summer. And now Wain is bringing them back together on the big screen once again.

Variety reports that Rudd and Poehler are now set to star together in a romantic comedy parody called They Came Together. The project is being produced by Lionsgate, which is a change for Wain, as his last two films - Role Models and Wanderlust - were made by Universal. The movie is based on a script that Wain wrote with frequent collaborator Michael Showalter after Wet Hot American Summer was released, but it was never made. The studio is looking for the film to begin production this summer.

As mentioned above, the plot of the film is pure parody: Paul Rudd will play Joel, a big corporate executive who argues frequently with Molly (Poehler) as his company is constantly threatening the budget of her knick-knack store. They begin having an off-again, on-again relationship and Variety says they will have to deal with genre staples like, "the jealous ex-girlfriend, the office jerk, scary in-laws, a boring dentist, a wise dog and beautiful shots of New York City in autumn."

This sounds amazing and I can't wait for it to be made. If there's anyone that's perfect for this kind of material, it's Wain.
