Paul W. S. Anderson Likes It With Whips

So, you say, "Hey, Scott, there's another Castlevania on the way."

My response, of course, is "Yeah? What game system?"

You give me an odd look and say, "Game systme?"

Suddenly, a chill runs down my spine. A scream gets trapped in the back of my throat. Somewhere a dog barks.

Yes, that's right, like we need another movie based on a video game (for crying out loud, where have all the good screenwriters gone?), we can now look forward to Castlevania: The Movie. Paul W. S. Anderson is setting us up for another. As if it weren't bad enough that we're being inflicted with a third Resident Evil film (Anderson's current project). He recently talked to FilmForce about his plans to bring Dracula and Belmont to the screen. While I'm really glad that Americans lead the world in certain areas, I'm happy to let Germany's Uwe Boll hold the crown for crappy video game adaptations, Anderson seems to be giving him a run for the money.

"It's going to explain how the Belmont clan and Dracula first come into contact, so in a way, it's going to be a genesis story of the clash between the Belmonts and Dracula." said Anderson. Oh, good, a franchise. "There are Castlevania games in the 1500s, there are Castlevania games in the Second World War, there are Castlevania in the future, and we're going to take the same kind of approach. It's going to be a very mythic story spanning hundreds of years, but the key characters are going to be Dracula and Simon Belmont." It spans hundreds of years? No doubt it will feel like the movie lasts that long too. "And the whip is going to be intact, although there'll be lots of other weaponry as well." That's great, Paul. Any chance for anything important like, say, a decent storyline or entertaining plot?

Anderson had more to say, but I can't bear to write any more. You can check it out at Filmforce's web site.
