Secretariat: Seabiscuit With Talent

In 1999 “Blood-Horse” magazine brought together a group of horse-racing enthusiasts and selected the one hundred greatest stallions of the twentieth century. Secretariat came in second to Man O’War. No offense to the latter champion, but Secretariat would have beaten the glue out of him. Besides, the 1973 Triple Crown Winner sired 600 offspring (all without getting any STDs!). Wilt Chamberlain only wishes his sexual prowess was that legendary. But apparently, the thoroughbred champion can now add cinematic appeal to his list of incredible accomplishments.

Variety is reporting that Disney has purchased the rights to Secretariat owner Penny Chenery’s life story. Don’t worry, it’s actually really interesting. In 1968, a coin was flipped to decide first choice of Bold Ruler’s offspring. The Chenery family lost, but fortunately for them, Secretariat was not chosen with the first pick. That’s like playing a pick-up game and selecting…well, not Michael Jordan. Penny Chenery then went on to raise the highly touted horse and eventually, bring him to the Kentucky Derby.

No word yet on any potential stars, but the script will be written and produced by the trio behind Miracle and The Rookie. Look for this to appear on your local movie listings sometime next year.
