When news first broke that Seth MacFarlane was making a movie, many doubted the writer's short attention span style of comedy would translate to the big screen. But the blow of taking on the longer format of film was softened by MacFarlane favoring his strengths. Ted centered on an overgrown goofball and his similarly stunted and unlikely best friend (in this case, not a talking dog or an alien, but a teddy bear brought to life with a magical wish) and blended elements of nostalgia with crude humor to create an R-rated comedy that was clunky but undeniably entertaining and wildly funny. Ted not only delighted critics, but also drew in audiences worldwide. And with a meager budget of $50 million, it's current gross of upwards of $233 million is all the more impressive. No wonder a sequel is being discussed.

THR reports that Universal is on board for Ted 2, but that the final say comes down to its writer, director, producer and star MacFarlane. Of course, this sounds a bit like the beginnings of the Bridesmaids 2 rumors that emerged in a flurry earlier this year, when Universal was pushing hard to make a sequel off that insanely successful R-rated comedy. That idea was eventually shot down by Kristen Wiig's disinterest in returning. But Ted fans have reason to hope as MacFarlane told crowds at Comic-Con, "I'd be open to making Ted 2."

In the meantime, you can look forward to having your own Ted adventures as THR also reveals plans to produce a talking teddy of the profane plaything. The toy will come in 3 different sizes, 8-inch, 16-inch, and 24-inch, and will cost $14, $34.99 and $59.99 respectively. Among some of the lines from the movie the Ted toy is expected to spew are: “C’mere ya bastard,” “I didn’t know you had a baby, is it alive?” and “You know what I’d like to do to her? Something I call a Dirty Fozzie.”

Look for Ted in stores like Urban Outfitters, Hot Topic and FYE this fall.
