Sleuth Gets Green Light

Over a year ago Michael Caine hinted that he’d like to see a remake done of his classic murder mystery film Sleuth. What’s that you say: an actor actually wishing for a remake of his movie? That’s right, we reported Caine’s comment last June. Now according to Variety it looks like Caine’s hopes are coming true.

Caine had been interested in Jude Law, who played Caine’s title role in the remake of Alfie, taking on the part Caine played in the 1972 film alongside Laurence Olivier. More interesting is that Caine would take on the role Olivier originated, allowing him to play opposite his former role.

This remake was something I was already interested in: a nice twist on a remake, however today’s Variety story increases my interest: Kenneth Branagh will be directing the script, adapted by Harold Pinter for the new film.

With Branagh, Caine, and Law attached and the casting twist, this could be one of the more interesting remakes to come along. It’ll be a while before we find out anything, since filming won’t begin until January. Castle Rock is financing the film, but won’t be selling distribution rights until the movie is completed, but be assured we’ll let you know as we find out more.
