Three ingredients are essential to selling Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers to its target audience: Bikini-clad starlets; a corn-rowed James Franco; and a gun. So the international poster for the surreal Spring Break comedy – a cult hit at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival – ticks off all the necessary boxes, even without giving us any idea what we can expect from the film. Check it out right here:

The Web site HeyYouGuys nabbed the one sheet, which is basically just a Photoshop of Spring Breakers imagery we’ve already seen, though it’s nowhere near as striking as some of the other promotional material the movie has released. But it puts the guilty-pleasure elements of Korine’s film front-and-center. The fact that Disney Channel starlets Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens play college-aged Spring Breakers participating in every lewd act known to mankind is going to sell the most tickets, but Franco’s bizarre turn as a drug kingpin, which the actor once wanted to pitch for Oscar consideration, will be the breakout surprise of the film as it's the element virtually everyone will be talking about once the movie finally opens.

When might that be? We’re not sure yet. A24 and Annapurna Pictures are handling theatrical distribution for the movie. The latter group, mind you, is a little tied up with an Oscar campaign for an actual contender: Zero Dark Thirty. But Spring Breakers will find its window, hopefully in time for Spring Break 2013. Set the premiere in Ft. Lauderdale, get Franco to preside over the red carpet festivities, and the movie will be off to a rip-roaring start.
