Top Directors Interested In Heavy Metal Movie

A couple of days ago we reported on an interview with Kevin Eastman, the publisher of Heavy Metal magazine, who had some inside knowledge on David Fincher's battle with Paramount over The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Comic fans were probably furious with us for ignoring what they must consider the more important part of the story-- Eastman and Fincher are working together on a third movie based on Heavy Metal, which will be an anthology of animated shorts based on comics that have appeared in the magazine over the years.

But it turns out the original Eastman interview was with RGB Filter, and they've put up the full video of their interview from Fan Expo. Eastman talked about much of his history in comics, from creating Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to buying Heavy Metal and then being disappointed when the second film, released in 2000, pretty much ignored all of his suggestions and, in his words, "ended up sucking really badly."

But Eastman is really excited about the new Heavy Metal project, which Fincher intends to executive produce and direct one segment. A host of other talented directors have also expressed interest-- Guillermo del Toro, Zack Snyder and Gore Verbinski are all named. "It's a pretty impressive lineup," Eastman says, in a giant understatement. The movie is apparently slated for release in August 2010, with production set to begin in the fall.

Head over to RGB Filter to see the entire lengthy interview, and to hear for yourself just how enthusiastic Eastman is about the new movie.
