Moviegoers just can’t get enough of memory loss pictures where a lead character struggles to reclaim his lost identity. It doesn’t hurt that some movies on the topic, such as Memento and Mulholland Drive, are extremely well-made and have left lasting impressions. But let’s remember that for every amnesia-laden gem, there is a Gothika creeping behind it.
According to MovieHole, another “who am I?” picture is on the way. Perfectly-sculpted actor Tyrese Gibson (Waist Deep) is collaborating with writer-producer Rock Shaink (The Seed) on a sci-fi thriller called 12th Man. Mark Jonathan penned the screenplay.
The story is about a man who wakes up aboard a dying space prison with no recollection of who he is, and two hours of oxygen remaining. Sounds bad enough, but it actually gets worse: he also has eleven of the universe’s deadliest criminals between him and the last escape pod.
Will this be one of the great memory-loss flicks? Probably not. But it could be a fun, absurd time at the movies, if handled correctly.
