Some heroes belong deep in the darkness; however, some deserve a chance to step out into the light. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles most cetainly represent the latter idea. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows will take everyone’s favorite team of heroic reptiles and give them the badass yet humorous adventure we have wanted to see from them for years. A new clip from the film premiered at this weekend’s Kid’s Choice Awards, and pretty much has us beyond excited for the upcoming sequel. Check it out below to see for yourself.
The clip starts off with a downright awesome moment from the Kid’s Choice Awards in which Casey Jones (played by Arrow’s Stephen Amell in the upcoming film) beats down an army of Foot Clan soldiers. At the end Shredder appears on the screen and introduces the first official sequence from the upcoming sequel. It showcases a moment we all loved from the trailer, and fleshes it out considerably.
The turtles close in on a group of bad guys robbing a truck on a New York freeway, and engage using their highly modified garbage truck. Every member of the team gets to shine in their own way; Donatello is the driver and technical expert, Leonardo leads the team and barks orders, Michelangelo has some fun with a giant set of nunchucks, and Raphael gets down and dirty taking on a group of bad guys pursuing them on motorcycles.
Although it doesn’t give us much in the way of plot details, the sequence most certainly helps us gain a better understanding of the type of movie we can expect to see. The production values are impressive, but the action decidedly distances itself from ideas like realism – which is exactly what we want this film to do.
The beauty of the sequence lies in the fact that it does not take itself too seriously. It’s all marked by a genuine attempt at humor as the titular Turtles crack wise and Run- D.M.C’s "It’s Tricky" plays loudly over the whole sequence. While some heroes like Batman deserve a dark overtone to their adventures, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles work better when they play their antics for laughs.
If the entire movie maintains this level of quality, then Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows could be the best TMNT movie in decades. We will bring you any and all Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles news as it becomes available to us; the upcoming sequel will hit theaters later this summer on June 3.
