Wolverine's Blob Gets An Actor

Most of the Wolverine casting rumors that have been going around were confirmed earlier in the week, including roles like Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Taylor Kitsch as Gambit. The other rumored mutant making an appearance in the X-Men spin-off, the Blob, hasn’t been mentioned, however, but Film School Rejects, the same site to report on the Blob’s appearance in the movie, seems to know who’s going to play the plus-sized mutant.

Kevin Durand, a working actor who has appeared in quite a few pictures without breaking into the mainstream attention (Butterfly Effect, Scooby Doo 2, Smokin’ Aces) is rumored to have already been “live-scanned” for the role of the Blob, even though his addition to the project theoretically just became official in the last few days. According to the report, Durand will start filming in Canada in the next week – interesting news since the rest of the Wolverine production is currently filming in New Zealand and Australia.

I’m a little wary of the report, not because I doubt the credibility of it, but because it appears to contradict what we’ve heard previously. Durand being “live-scanned” indicates the character will be manipulated by a computer somehow, which works against the previous reports of practical effects. The actor heading to a separate location to film makes it sound like he’s going to be green-screened or motion captured. Does this mean the Blob will be a CG effect after all? In that case his involvement may be a little more substantial than what we had previously been lead to believe.

We’ll be looking for more developments on this as they are announced. Until then, congratuations to Kevin Durand for picking up a role that will get him a little more recognition.
