Zohan Glitters With Carey

Yes, Virginia, there is something worse than a Paul “not the good one” Anderson movie. No, I’m not talking about an Uwe Boll movie… although that is worse. I’m talking about the vanity pop-star movie project. Bodyguard aside, most movies featuring pop-stars quickly plummet into obscurity, or worse – fodder for The Razzies. Just look at the American Idol excursion From Justin to Kelly or Vanilla Ice’s Cool as Ice.

Well, the six-time Razzie nomination experience of Glitter wasn’t enough for pop-diva Mariah Carey, who will be leaping back onto screens according to JoBlo.com. At least this time she’s partnering with someone with talent, however. She’s signed on to star in You Don’t Mess With the Zohan, starring Adam Sandler. The movie will feature Sandler as Zohan, a Mossad Agent who retires and moves to America to become a hairdresser. Carey will play as… well, herself, in a part that crosses Zohan’s former nemesis and forces Zohan back into service.

Let’s see – in Glitter Carey played a young singer who wanted to become a big star – a role that was based partly on Carey herself. Now she’s just flat out playing herself. I guess it’s a good thing she hasn’t tried acting full time with that range. I don’t know what anyone is thinking, casting Carey in this movie. Then again, Sandler is well known for putting out a stinker with just about every other movie. Maybe he’s making up for having two decent films back-to-back by really embracing everything bad with Zohan. Then again, the film was cowritten by Sandler and Judd Apatow, so maybe they really know what they’re doing.

You Don’t Mess With the Zohan will reunite Sandler with Dennis Dugan, the director of his upcoming I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry.
